Academy Info
The Ethiopian Sports Academy operates two primary campuses, each designed to foster excellence in sports training and education. The Addis Ababa campus, located in Bole Sub City near Bole International Airport, spans over 24 hectares and features cutting-edge facilities, including indoor and outdoor sports arenas, academic classrooms, dormitories, and recreational areas. The Athlete Tirunesh Dibaba Sports Training Center in Assela, situated 175 kilometers southeast of Addis Ababa, specializes in athletics and football training, offering programs tailored to prepare athletes for both national and international competitions. The Academy provides tuition-free training for youth under 15 and 17, offering a well-rounded program that includes academic education, basic computer training, and full accommodation. Trainees also receive financial and material support, ensuring their focus remains on personal and professional growth. Beyond training young athletes, the Academy is a hub for capacity-building programs targeting sports professionals and a center for research aimed at advancing Ethiopia’s sports sector.
In addition to its training and education programs, the Academy is deeply engaged in research and consultancy. It funds and facilitates studies in key areas such as sports science, nutrition, talent identification, and injury prevention. The Academy also organizes an annual National Sports Research Conference, fostering collaboration between academics, private researchers, and universities. By prioritizing partnerships with local and international organizations, it leverages knowledge transfer and resource sharing to enhance its impact and ensure sustainable growth in Ethiopia’s sports industry.
